The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government in north Sarawak is committed to improving its physical and digital infrastructure to transform Miri Hospital into the medical hub for the state’s northern region. Currently, the Miri Hospital needs to be extended and upgraded to ensure that it will be able to meet the growing needs of the population in Sarawak’s northern region, which can reach up to 789,376 people by 2025.
For starters, the GPS state government is actively developing roads to connect Miri Hospital with Baram and Marudi, continuing to Mulu. According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state government will also build roads to connect Miri to Sarawak’s two north-most districts, including Limbang and Lawas, with plans to be completed by 2025.
On digital infrastructure, the state government has decided to allocate RM 1 billion (USD 246 million) to upgrade Sarawak’s digital infrastructure and help Miri Hospital introduce better healthcare services such as telemedicine.
Earlier, Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof also announced that the newly extended Miri Hospital would be environment-friendly with the application of the Malaysian Carbon Reduction and Environmental Sustainability Tool (MyCREST).
