It has been recently revealed that Apple’s newest wireless earphones, the AirPods Pro 2, will be mass manufactured in Vietnam in the second half of 2022, as part of the American company´s strategy to expand production outside China amid strict Covid-19 policies there. In effect, lockdowns in Shanghai and other cities as part of China have led supply-chain bottlenecks.
Apple introduced the first version of AirPods Pro, with active noise cancellation and adaptive equalization, in October 2019 and is now preparing a second generation of the Airpods Pro 2.
According to TF International Securities, the shift of the AirPods Pro 2 from China to Vietnam is owing to a relatively uncomplicated supply chain in the Southeast Asian country, as well as a favorable production environment, especially in terms of infrastructure and workforce
Recently, Apple urged its contract partners to boost production outside China. Vietnam, currently accounting for a small amount of Apple’s worldwide production, is among the prominent destinations for the strategy.
